Around 5am on April 29, 2017 severe thunderstorms moved across central New Jersey. Extremely heavy rain and lots of lightning were observed. Radar indicated quarter size hail within the storm, but none was observed. I quickly set up my go pro after being woken up by the storm, and this is the raw video directly from the camera, no editing. Camera was facing southerly direction in Somerset, NJ. StrikeStarUS lightning tracking indicates over 600 lightning strikes occurred during the early morning storm across the Northeast US, with over 1800 lightningstrikes in the last 12 hours. Several transformer fires were sparked across central Jersey by the lightning strikes. Flash flooding was observed in some locations due to the heavy rain.
